How to Renew a US Visa in Nigeria / Dropbox Locations in Nigeria

How to Renew a US Visa in Nigeria – Do you have a US visa that is due to expire soon and you have no idea how to do your visa renewal? In this article, we are going to give you a step by step guide on how to renew a US visa in Nigeria.

You should know that the United States of America offers an interview wavier program also known as dropbox. In this program a specific class of visa applicants who have previously been issued U.S visas can have their visas renewed without attending an interview at the US embassy. This is to say that thoses applicants will not have to be cross examined or interrogated by a visa consular  to have their US visa renewed. This is not to say that there are no requirements/ prerequisites to having your US visa renewed. Here is a list of factors that will make your visa renewal application either a success or a failure.

You must be applying to renew a US visa under the following visa categories;

  • B1 /B2 visa
  • F and M visa
  • J visa
  • L visa
  • H visa

For a B1/B2 visa holder to qualify for the dropbox (interview waiver program) in Nigeria. S/he must:

  • Be a Nigerian passport holder. If you are not a Nigerian citizen, then you must be resident in Nigeria and your last US visa was issued in Nigeria.
  • Show that your last US visa interview resulted to you being issued a visa
  • That you were issued a 2 year B1/B2 US visa in your last interview.
  • That the US visa that you want to renew expired between 1 – 12 months before your request for reissuance. For example, if your US visa expired on the 12th of June 2017, you have till May 2018 to use the dropbox program to renew your passport.
  • You must be at least 14 years of age the last time you were issued a US visa or that you will still be under 14 years at the time you were requesting for a visa renewal. Is this confusing? Let me explain: If you were 13 years when your first US visa was issued and now 15 years when your visa expires, you shouldn’t use the dropbox (interview wavier program)
  • You should have not been arrested by any law enforcement agency during your stay in the United States.
